Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series Round 7 Results A
packed Hobie Beach welcomed the 2010 return of the Axxess
Racing Series on Sunday 10 January, with over 570 participants taking
part in one of 5 events held on the morning. EP Open water swimming
youngsters, Frank Greeff (17 yrs) and Jessica Roux (17 yrs) dominated
the Crocs 3km Ocean Swim, with Greeff winning in a time of 38min 40 sec
and Roux placing 5th overall in 44:31. One of the outstanding
performances of the day was 13 year old Chrislie Niehaus placing 7th
overall to place 2nd in the ladies category. 14 year old Wayne Jones
placed 2nd in the Men’s race just ahead of seasoned Ironman 47 year old
Jack de Kort whilst Rebecca Newman placed 8th overall to finish 3rd in
the ladies category.

In the SPAR
1km Ocean Swim, 16 year old Chris van de Sande extended his
Series lead, winning in 13min 17sec from Adam Stevenson and Jason
Jones. The Billson sisters fought it out for line honours in the ladies
1km race with 14 year old Lauren just pipping her older sister, Carmel,
with SA swimming squad member Jessica Ashely-Cooper placing 3rd.

In the Beachfront
5km Beach Run/Walk it was Series leaders
Marinus Johnson and Liandre Pretorius who enjoyed comforable victories
on the morning. Roberttuis Matthys and Antonio Seconds followed Johnson
for the podium medals whilst Ursula Kuhn and Amy Catherine got the
remaining medals in the ladies race.

On the water the Boardwalk
6km Ocean Paddle race saw an upset as Series
leader Mark Economou was pushed into 4th place by upcoming junior
paddler Luke McNish with Roddy Fox in second place and Stuart Laing in
3rd. Inge Economou won the ladies paddle race from Antoinette Scholtz
and Ruth Fox.

New to the Series for 2010 has been the introduction of the Beachfront
Lodges 2km Kids Nature Series Beach run/walk for children 12 years and
younger. The Nature Series Beach Run/Walk is a public outreach and
fundraising initiative of the PE Beachfront Lodges to highlight the need
for conservation of our environment through increasing the public’s
awareness and appreciation of nature, particularly associated with the
Ocean. Each of the Nature Series runs will be themed, highlighting a
particular animal, mammal, bird of fish species or activity with the
next event taking place on Sunday 24th January.

The next race in the Series will take place on Sunday 24th January at
Hobie Beach.
