Bats Tour Dedicated to Eddie
www.MyPE.co.za:
Popular evergreen musician and comedian Derek Gordon is joining the
Bats for their Eastern Cape tour over the festive season.
He will be standing
in for frontman Eddie Eckstein, who is recovering
from a thrombosis in his leg.
“Derek will add a new element to the band, which includes original
members Paul Ditchfield and Pete Clifford, as well as Derek Gordon, who
is no relation to the Derek Gordon from Cape Town who will be me this
summer,” says Eckstein.
Although the Bats are disappointed that Eddie can’t join them on their
third Eastern Cape summer season tour, the “over 60 boys” decided that
the show must go on.
“It will certainly be different without Eddie, but we are looking
forward to having Derek being ‘batty’ with us,” says Ditchfield, who
has been part of the Bats for more than 40 years.
The band will still be playing its evergreen favourites.
In the early 1970s, the Bats won a Sarie Award for their single,’ Who’s
that Girl’. In the 1980s, the Bat’s released a number of hit singles
such as ‘In a Shabby Little Hut’ and ‘Vat Hom Dawie’.
This year’s show, themed “Good Times”, is a performance of their top
hits plus a few modern additions that guarantees a good time for all.
Audiences will be able to swing to sixties tunes, rock ‘n roll to
classics from Elvis and the Shadows and enjoy a selection of other
popular ballads and rock music.
They will be performing at The
Boardwalk on December 23 and 24 at the
Vodacom Amphitheatre. The show starts at 8 pm. and tickets are
available from Go Experiences and Computicket
at R70. The tour is
dedicated to Eddie and part of the profits will go towards his medical
expenses.
As part of their coastal tour, the band will also perform in Port
Alfred (21 December), East London (26 and 27 December), Jeffrey’s Bay
(28 and 29 December) and Mossel Bay (30 and 31 December).
