CANSA Shavathon Goes Green and Gold

www.MyPE.co.za:According
to statistics, one in six South African men and one in seven South
African women will get cancer during their lives. The odds are that you
know someone who has been affected by this disease, so come and show
your support for CANSA Eastern Cape at the regional Shavathon on
Friday, 3 April.

With over R3 million worth of funds allocated towards cancer research
annually, the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is one of the
largest sponsors of this kind of research in the country. For a
donation of R20, supporters of the Shavathon can either shave their
heads or spray paint their hair in vivid colours to show their support
for the cause.

Sarisa Marais and Dave Callaghan“Come and help others
put some colour in their lives!” says South
African Paralympic athlete, Sarisa
Marais
who lost her leg to cancer.

“This is one of our most successful fund-raisers,” says Joan Duarte,
project facilitator for the CANSA association in Port Elizabeth. “It is
wonderful because people of all ages can take part, even the kids are
always keen to show their support!”

Supporters of the event, held in The
Boardwalk
SuperSport
Arena
, are
invited to stay and support another worthy cause as South Africa take
on Australia in an ODI from 2pm. The game will be shown live on the
SuperSport big screen. Former South African cricketer and cancer
survivor, Dave
Callaghan
also supports the event, “Green and gold is
the way to go! Come and support CANSA and your favourite team at The
Boardwalk!

After the ODI, supporters can “party for a purpose” with DJ Greg ‘O Gee
who will be spinning the decks until late.

“The Boardwalk will be supporting this event whole-heartedly,” says
Peggy Mokhatla, social equity manager at The Boardwalk. “For every R20
donation from our staff members, The Boardwalk will donate an
additional R20. It is something very close to our hearts
because the wife of our GM recently passed away from this disease.”

Volunteers will be at the SuperSport
arena
from 14h30 till late to
“shave or spray” supporters of the Shavathon. There will also be an
area set up outside the casino entrance (weather permitting) for
children wanting to support the event.
