Councillors Give Thumbs Up to 2010 Stadium As a
precursor to Sunday’s Open Day Celebrations, Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality Councillors, led by the Deputy Executive Mayor Bicks Ndoni
and the Executive Director for 2010 Errol Heynes, today took time off
from their busy schedules to visit the new Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.
The visit was organized by the Speakers Office to afford Councillors
the opportunity to experience the facility first hand before everyone
else does.

Excited and jubilant Councillors could not help but marvel at the
facility as they were given a tour of this world class stadium. The
Deputy Executive Mayor said there was a lot of excitement from
Councillors and that the visit was important so that Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality Councillors could experience the facility before it was
open to the public. He also had something to say about the stadium’s
state of readiness. ‘The fact that we are hosting an international
match on June 16 confirms that we would have been able to host a
successful Confederations Cup’. ‘We have also had comments from
knowledgeable people like Riaan Oberholzer that the stadium is indeed
poised to host a successful match on June 16′, this stadium really
gives us something to be proud of’, he concluded.

The stadium is set to host three events in quick succession, first, is
the widely publicized Open Day on Sunday, June 7, 2009 followed by the
international rugby match between the touring British and Irish Lions
versus Southern Kings Invitational side on June 16, 2009 as well as the
Vodacom Challenge between perennial rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando
Pirates scheduled for July 23, 2009.
