Electricity Supply Interruptions Around 2010 Stadium on Wednesday
www.MyPE.co.za: The
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate
will be testing the stability of the electricity supply to the city’s
brand new 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africaâ„¢ stadium and surrounding
areas tomorrow night (Wednesday, June 24) from 6pm until 8pm (18h00 –
20h00).
Areas bounded by Sydenham, Sidwell, Korsten, North End, Kensington,
Holland Park, Parsons Hill, Brickmakerskloof, Park Drive, Neave
Township, Linkside, Mill Park, Adcockvale and Perridgevale will be
affected.
As there is no guarantee that supply will be off throughout the whole
period stated, installations in all premises must be regarded as being
live during these hours.
In terms of the requirements by the International Soccer Federation,
FIFA, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality must have a normal
electricity supply to the stadium, standby generators, Uninterrupted
Power Supply as well as the Mount Road Gas Turbine functioning
optimally during the hosting of all the matches.
Determinations will be made on the electricity demand during the peak
hours (6-8pm), the maximum load that the Mount Road Gas Turbine can
handle and how the surrounding areas will be affected in the event of a
power outage. This will assist the Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality in establishing alternative methods of restoring supply to
the stadium and the surrounding areas.
