Former PERCCI CEO in NMBT Hot Seat

www.MyPE.co.za: Former Port Elizabeth
Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Odwa Mtati was elected on Wednesday 1
December as the new Chairperson of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT),
while Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex General Manager
Clifford Ngakane was elected as the Vice-Chair.

NMBT 2010 Board MembersTheir election comes a week
after the election of a new NMBT
board, consisting of a diverse group of top Nelson Mandela Bay leaders.

“As a collective, the new board’s responsibility is to ensure that we
help market and improve the face and impression of Nelson Mandela Bay
as a top tourism destination, while also recognising the achievements
and foundations laid by the previous board,” said Mtati.

Assuring NMBT’s members of the board’s aim to take the institution to a
higher level, Mtati said the board would not work alone but would also
engage with critical stakeholders in the industry as well as in the
metro, in an effort to strengthen partnerships.

“Our responsibility is also to provide support to NMBT’s CEO Mandlakazi
Skefile and her management team in their efforts to market the city,”
said Mtati.

“Under the strong leadership of Mr Mtati and Mr Ngakane, the board’s
superb collection of minds will add great value to our city’s efforts
to market and promote the destination, as well as strengthen the
tourism industry in the city,” said Mandlakazi Skefile, NMBT chief
executive.

The new board consists of: Port Elizabeth Airport manager Azad Cassim;
Bradley Levack, director of Djembe Heritage Initiatives; Mike
Callaghan, secretary of the Nelson Mandela Bay tourist guide
association; former Eastern Cape Tourism Board CEO Zola Tshefu, now
owner of Lelibo Investment; Hugh Bartis, head of the Department of
Tourism at Nelson
Mandela Metropolitan University
; Zoe Waters, finance and human
resources manager at the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (PERCCI);
Nomkhita Mona, chief executive of Uitenhage
Despatch Development Initiative
and former Eastern Cape Tourism
Board CEO; and Skefile of NMBT.

“All members on the board have a passion for tourism and we as NMBT
pledge to give them our full support in order to take the organisation
to the next level,” said Skefile.
