How to Take Action Against Illegal Car Guards One
of the Mount Croix Sector Crime Forum community representatives
recently reported to the crime forum that: “Metro Security staff are
very ready to respond to calls to deal with irregular “CAR GUARDS”.
They say that when these guys are arrested and taken to SAPS, the
latter respond that these are minor matters, and they are held maybe
for a few hours and then released. We need to seek better co-operation
from SAPS and we also need to present good cases against these guys to
make charges stick.

The following process occurs when the Metro Security is contacted: if
the guard does not have a permit, his bib is confiscated and if there
is no case, they physically remove them from the area, by vehicle.

For action:

  1. Call Philip Solomon on 079 490 0890 if he is on duty (14h00
    – 20h00) or Control room 041 508 5548 / 041 583 2311
  2. Mr. Robile is the officer in charge and can be contacted on
    041 402 1000 / 082 767 9743.

All car guards must have permits and they can be stripped of their bibs
and told to leave and even be arrested if any case can be attached to

The car guards must have a minimum of a Grade E Security Officers
qualification – that qualification must be carried by the Car Guard
when on duty. It will show personal details of the Car Guard as well as
a photograph.

By paying unregistered Car Guards you are contributing to the problem.

Take two minutes of your day and check if your car guard is registered,
if not encourage him to go and get his or her Grade E qualification and
at the very least demand good service.

I know that I will be inclined to tip a lot more if the car guard is
courteous, smart and clean, opens the door for myself or the Longhair
if she accompanies me, asks me for a number he can call me on if there
is an emergency, gives me his card or number that I can phone him on
and knows which car is mine when I return.

Let’s help Port Elizabeth have the best Car Guards in the country.

By the way the Mount Croix Sector Crime Forum (Including the Community
Forum & Neighbourhood Watch) is holding a Public General
Meeting on Wednesday 27 October 2010 at the Erica Primary School Hall,
Bayview Avenue, Mount Croix, at 6:00 p.m.
