How You Can Attract Links and Increase Web Traffic
www.MyPE.co.za: The
burning question on everyone’s lips is; “How to Attract Links and
Increase Web Traffic”. If I had 5 cents for every time I was asked that
I could retire.
Well not quite 5 cents, but you get my drift.
As web site owners we tend to believe that if we build a web site the
world will beat a path to our door and we will become mega rich
overnight. And the reasoning we use for our misguided thoughts is;
“Well Google, Facebook, Amazon etc. did it so it must be possible!”
The key to becoming a successful online business is inextricably tied up
in
links to your web site from other web sites and the associated traffic
that those links bring. The most valuable link is the voluntary one -
the one that some other person puts up and actively recommends to his or
her friends. That one link espouses my whole philosophy in life; “If I
make YOU stronger, then I will become stronger.”
I suppose some clever dick will define my philosophy as “Contributory
Capitalism” or maybe even “Neighbourhood Capitalism”?
Of course our neighbours across the pond have the jump on us South
Africans (and Port Elizabethans) when it comes to being the biggest,
fastest, best and most read ‘experts’ telling you how to attract links
and increase web traffic. Any number of ‘experts’ are willing to tell
you how to be successful if you will just part with a dollar / euro /
pound or two to buy the latest get rich quick scheme.
The bottom line is that you need to provide focused, high quality,
engaging content on your web site in order to be acknowledged as an
expert. If you are acknowledged as an expert in your field then people
will willingly link to (and consequently promote) you. Allied with
this you need to engage with like minded people in a non threatening
manner, assist where possible to make them stronger, all the while
quietly confident
that they will recognise your quiet genius at work and reciprocate.
We tend to believe that anything that comes from across the pond is of
far higher quality than local, but, the tide is turning as more and
more South Africans become succesful online and are willing to share
their knowledge.
