Nelson Mandela Bay to Host Youth Leadership Conference
www.MyPE.co.za: The
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the Moral Regeneration Movement are
to host a Youth Leadership Conference from Monday 29 June to Thursday
02 July 2009 in Sumcay Campsite.
60 pupils from 12 schools around Nelson Mandela Bay and five from the
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Youth Desk are expected to attend the
event which will be the first of its kind in the Bay. The pupils come
from schools in Uitenhage, Dispatch and Port Elizabeth and include
mainly the previously disadvantaged schools.
The four-day event is part of the Municipality’s contribution to Youth
Month initiatives and young people will be trained on leadership
qualities such as integrity and high moral values.
According to the Speaker of Council, Councillor Charmaine Williams
under whom the Moral Regeneration Movement falls, this initiative will
help address a number of issues. “Because it is targeted at young
people, it is sure to have a huge impact in restoring good morale
fabric in Nelson Mandela Bay while nurturing tomorrow’s leaders to be
capable of leading our communities to greater levels of success,” said
Councillor Williams.
“The project of creating better lives for people starts with developing
and nurturing the right kinds of skills, attitudes and behaviours which
are necessary for developing societies”, she concluded.
The youths will go through an intensive training programme coupled with
fun activities for the four days and they will present their short to
long term goals on the last day. They will receive certificates on the
last day of the conference at an event that will be graced by the
Speaker of Council and the Chief Executive Officer of the Moral
Regeneration Movement, among others.
