Ocean Racing Series Goes Green

www.MyPE.co.za:
Sunday sees the sixth race of the evergreen and extremely popular
Axxess
DSL
Ocean Racing Series and in celebration of this family
lifestyle event’s halfway mark, Hobie Beach will be treated to a
clean-up before opening of the season.

According to race organiser, Michael Zoetmulder from Zports,
the crew
from Ocean Minded will be joining participants and supporters in
picking up litter along the shore-line on Sunday 13 December.

“Hobie Beach is one of Port Elizabeth’s biggest assets and provides a
fantastic venue for the Ocean Racing Series. Throughout the racing
series it ‘looks after’ us and it seems only fair to return the favour”.

Zoetmulder says numbered black bags will be handed out to people
wanting to lend a hand. “All people have to do is walk along the shore,
pick up litter and pop it into the bag. People should hang onto their
bags, since there will be a lucky draw during prize giving”.

He says this is the last leg for this year and that 2010 will see the
introduction of electronic timing of athletes in the series. “The race
has grown so significantly that we have to now do timing
electronically.”

The first race in the New Year – which will be the seventh leg of the
series – takes place on January 10.

Athletes can choose between the 5km Beachfront
Lodges
Beach Run/Walk,
The SPAR
1km Ocean Swim, The CROCS
2km Ocean Swim and the Boardwalk
Ocean paddle events. All races start at 9am. The series consists of 12
legs in total, but athletes don’t have to take part in all and can join
in at any time during the series.
