Please use the RIGHT Numbers to Report Water Leaks While
still dealing with the impact of a prevailing drought, the Nelson
Mandela Bay Municipality noted with concern that residents are still
using outdated numbers to report water leaks, which severely hampers
the institution in its efforts to adequately repair leaks.

Cllr Melvin Manentsa, Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee for
Infrastructure, Engineering, Electricity and Energy, reminded residents
that they have a very important role to play in order for us to
optimally use the water resources in our dams.

“That responsibility includes the correct reporting structure to ensure
that the sub-directorate is in a position to fix leaking water pipes
and sewer blockages.”

“We have noticed that some of the telephone numbers that the public are
still using are incorrect numbers to report water leaks and sewer
blockages. We need to remind consumers and the public to call 0800 20
50 50 to report leaks and abuse of water resources as well as sewer

A call from a landline to the 0800 20 50 50 number is free.

Strict water restrictions
are still in place and the Dam levels as at 5 July 2010 are:

  1. Kouga – 35,3%
  2. Churchill – 21,4%
  3. Impofu – 38,8%
  4. Loerie – 36,6%
  5. Groendal – 35,5%
  6. Average – 34,8 %  of total combined capacity
