Port Elizabeth Blue Flag Beaches
Nelson Mandela Bay offer three pristine beaches, with Blue Flag status and one having been awarded pilot status. Summer water temperature range from 18 to 21C and from 14 to 19C during winter months. Sea conditions are generally calm in the bay, except when the south-easterly wind blows.
Northern Beaches
Providing superb angling and swimming opportunities at Brighton Beach, St George’s Strand and Bluewater Bay near the N2. This 12km beach is popular for swimming, boating, fishing, whale and dolphin watching and beach walks.
Southern Beaches
Humewood, King’s, Hobie and Pollok Beaches comprise the main beach front area. King’s Beach 1,6 km long from the harbour wall to Humewood provides safe swimming, body surfing, sunbathing and long beach walks. The promenade encompasses children’s playgrounds and toddlers paddling pools. Hobie Beach incorporating Shark Rock Pier, is one of our main beaches. The beach is preferred for swimming, sunbathing and body surfing, offering sheltered rock pools with inter tidal sea life. Humewood beach is ideal for families offering sheltered swimming and shade under the promenade. Surfers favour Pollok beach, locally known as The Pipe, with its excellent waves and surfing opportunities.
McArthur’s Pool and Leisure Centre
Situated along King’s Beach Promenade adjoining into King’s Beach, McArthur’s Pool and Leisure Centre offers water recreational facility. Comprises of two open-air warm freshwater pools, a larger swimming pool, changing rooms and a children’s water chute and splash pool. Life guards are permanently on duty at the complex.
