Salaries a Major Plus in the Hospitality Industry
www.MyPE.co.za:
According to an official survey, between now and 2014 the hospitality
industry is expected to add 17% in wages and salaries to its existing
stereotypical entry-level wages. South Africa’s food and hospitality
arenas have experienced exceptional growth over the past 5 years and
the hotel division is currently the biggest component of this sector.
In particular, management salaries in hospitality are increasing ahead
of those in other sectors. It has also been noted that there is a
continual shortage of top quality managers and support staff, with the
result that talented qualified people progress far quicker into top
level positions with the equivalent salaries. One of the biggest skills
shortages is that of chefs and consequently, companies are now prepared
to offer competitive salary packages in return for their expertise.
More and more employers are demanding quality staff and in turn are
happy to compensate these workers according to their skills and
competencies.
“We have noticed of late that more of the students graduating from our
institution have entered into top jobs within the hospitality
industry,” said Nigel Bottel, Business Development Manager at EISS
International. ” The hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing
industries in South Africa and EISS International therefore needs to
continually update its training programmes and to introduce unique
modules to its curriculum in order to ensure that the students
graduating from our halls are of a high calibre - in keeping with the
current demand,” he continued.
The Confederations Cup and the 2010
Fifa World Cup are certainly
playing a positive role in the growth of the hospitality industry and
can also be linked to the change in salary options for the staff
offered by this vibrant sector. Major hotel companies and other related
tourism institutions will enjoy the marketing boost of these
international tournaments long after they have come to an end and this,
in turn, will trickle down to talented hospitality employees.
