Sir David Attenborough to Receive Honorary Doctorate from NMMU
World-acclaimed scientist and cinematographer Sir David Attenborough is
one of four honorary doctoral degree recipients at Nelson Mandela
Metropolitan University’s graduation ceremonies this year.

He will receive a Doctor of Science degree in recognition of his
approach to wildlife – successfully marrying science and entertainment.
Since he is unable to attend the April ceremony, he will receive his
degree at a special ceremony at a later date.

The other recipients are human rights champion Dr Navanethem Pillay,
respected quantity surveying academic and professional Prof Gaye le
Roux and educationist and sport personality Raymond Uren.

Dr Pillay has made a unique contribution to the development of South
African and international human rights law as well as gaining worldwide
respect as a judicial officer and she will be awarded an honorary
doctorate in Law.

Prof le Roux will be awarded an honorary doctorate in Construction
Economics for her outstanding contribution to the profession of
quantity surveying in South Africa.

Raymond Uren will be awarded an honorary doctorate in Education by the
university, honouring his substantial contribution to education and to
the community of
Nelson Mandela Bay in general.

Close to 5 000 certificates, diplomas and degrees will be awarded at 10
graduation ceremonies in Port Elizabeth and George from 14 to 22 April,
including 182 masters degrees and 36 doctorates.

The honorary doctorates will be awarded at the NMMU
