SSLC AGM on Sunday
Summerstrand Surf Lifesavers will meet at their Pollok Beach clubhouse
this Sunday, 30th August, for their 53rd Annual General Meeting and the
presentation of their annual awards. The function starts at 12 noon and
will be followed by a bring-and-braai.

Last year it was National beach champion, Mandi
, who dominated
the SSLC
awards, claiming five trophies and the clubs “Lifesaver of the
Year” title. The past season has been equally successful for the 19
year-old international star, and she could again walk away with a
number of trophies.

von Wildemann
had another impressive paddling season, placing
close second in the national surf ski championship in Durban, so he
could clinch a few trophies.

The voluntary club maintained its impressive record of not having any
drownings on Pollok whilst their duty squads have been on patrol, and
their top duty performers will again be recognized and rewarded.

The outgoing Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Committee, who have done a
fine job, were headed up by stalwart Club President, David Collins, who
has been at the helm of the club for the past 31 years. Brian Saunders
has completed his first year as Chairman and Kelly Tarr-Graham was the
Treasurer. The administration functions were handled by the competent
team of Nicky Malan and Shelly Nelsen and the four general committee
positions were filled by Dave Rayner, Tillie Maritz, Nicky Roote and
Tania Van Thiel Berghuis.

The Club Captain’s portfolio was ably filled by Tracy Barber, who
recently married Fanta Gous. Other outgoing committee members are
Warren Collier (Nippers), Lyn Zoetmulder (media), Rose von Wildemann
(Development), John Allen (Clubhouse Manager), Andrew Skowno (Craft)
and Anthony Skinner (Duty Records).
