Swimmers Swop Blankets for Chilly Swim

www.MyPE.co.za: A hot
response to Sunday’s Nando’s Winter Ocean Racing Series saw two local
charities being the ultimate winners on the day. Around 250
participants took part in this once-off race day with most participants
donating blankets for the homeless and the Series realising three
dreams for the Reach for a Dream Foundation during the post event prize
giving function.

Nandos Ocean SwimA crowded Shark Rock
pier witnessed the families taking part in one of
four events on the morning with Eastern Province 10km open water
champion Michael
Marais
winning the 1km Ocean Swim from Wayne and Jason
Jones. In the ladies 1km swim it was Rebecca
Newman
winning from Tarryn
Els and Jessica Bruns. ORS World 5km Beach Champion Marinus Johnson
maintained his unbeaten record on Hobie Beach with another win in the
5km Beach Run whilst Ursula Kuhn claimed the ladies race. In teh kids
1km beach run it was Jenna Parry and Callum-Lee Boschoff who crossed
the line first in their respective genders. Top EP paddler Richard von
Wildeman made easy work of the 5km paddle whilst Antoniette Scholtz was
the lone ladies single ski paddler.

The full version of the Ocean Racing Series will return to Nelson
Mandela Bay on Sunday 7th November for their 10 race Series which will
be hosted on alternate Sunday mornings and conclude at the end of March
2011.
