Transnet Strike Negotiations Continue Tomorrow

www.MyPE.co.za:
Transnet and labour are to meet again at the Commission for
Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in efforts to end a 10
day strike at its operations.

Transnet spokesperson John Dludlu confirmed on Wednesday that a second
round of mediation talks between the transport parastatal and unions
under the auspices of the CCMA ended at 4am this morning.

“The talks, intended to resolve the ongoing wage dispute, were
constructive and positive,” he said.

The United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu) and the South
African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) downed tools last
week over wage matters. The unions were demanding a 15 percent wage
increase while the parastatal was offering eight.

Transnet had since upped the offer to 11 percent while unions scaled
down their demand to 13 percent.
On Monday Transnet confirmed that mediation, which began last week
between the parties, had failed.

The parties will reconvene tomorrow at 4pm.

Utatu general secretary Chris de Vos, said labour was today considering
a draft agreement with Transnet at the CCMA.

“We will then be in a position to give a full report on the details of
the negotiations. Until then, Transnet will not comment on the details
of the talks to ensure that the process is given every chance to
succeed,” said Dludlu.-BuaNews
