Wanna Buy My Candy

group of NMMU PR
Students were recently treated to a sweet deal to help charity.
As part of a Public Relations assignment to benefit a non-profit
organisation, a group of second year Public Relations students from
NMMU sold candy floss to raise money for Nonelel’uluntu Woman’s
Organisation.

Thuba Myeki Candy for CharityThe group decided to
have a ‘Candy for Charity’ sale, because they
wanted to give something back to each and every person who was willing
to support Nonelel’uluntu, as opposed to a raffle or lucky draw where
only one person would get something out.

“By buying a packet of candy floss you not only treated your sweet
tooth to a delicious something, but you were also left with the happy
thought that you had helped raise money for the less fortunate”, said
Tracey-Lee Scott who came up with the idea.

The idea worked like a bomb in helping the group raise money to be used
to assist Nonelel’uluntu distribute food parcels in the area of New
Brighton. Nonelel’uluntu is an active organisation in the New Brighton,
Port Elizabeth area. Some of their activities include feeding less
fortunate children twice a week, creating awareness about HIV/AIDS,
helping children with school work and developing skills through
programs such as beading workshops.

Tracey-Lee Scott thanked the Foodzone
supermarket group for sponsoring
equipment and also NMMU
for providing the premises on which the sale
took place.

Providing a little more candy for the eyes on the day was Thuba
Myeki
,
one of the members of the home grown PE boy band, Escape, who helped
with sale promotions.
