Warriors Tame the Lions, now that’s AYOBA

another rain affected game, Warriors beat the Lions via the Duckworth
Lewis system, by 7 wickets with 6 balls remaining.

Warriors won the toss and sent Lions in to bat. Vandiar was the first
to go on 55 setting a first wicket partnership of 93 runs. Back in form
McKenzie (a little too late), slammed his way to 125 runs off 116
balls, 9 fours and 4 sixes, before Garnett Kruger bowled him with a
sizzler. After 40 overs, Lions managed a credible 297 runs for 7
wickets, at an average of 7.42 runs per over.

Before the second half of the game could begin it started to rain and
the overs were reduced to 35 overs and the target set at 275 runs. JJ
Smuts had a bad start and was out with the first ball he faced, caught
by Van Jaarsveld bowled by Matshikwe. The second wicket fell for 60
runs in the 12th over  when opener Arno Jacobs was cleaned
bowled by Coetsee on 25 runs off 35 balls which included 2 fours and 1
six. Then Colin Ingram and Justin Kreusch set about attacking the
bowlers and the runs required came down at an average of 9.61 runs to
the over. A match winning partnership of 210 runs between them in 22
over sealed the victory for the Warriors. Colin Ingram not out on 125
runs from 100 balls, 10 fours and 5 sixes. Partner Justin Kreusch out
on 102 from 93 balls 10 fours and 5 sixes. Davy Jacobs not out on 2 got
the winning runs with six balls to spare.

Warriors end up comfortably in 3rd place with 16 points and will play
the Cape Cobras in the first of the semi-finals in Paarl on Friday 22
January at 14h00.

The Titans finished top of the log and will face the Dolphins again on
Sunday 24th at Centurion in Pretoria at 10h00.

The final will be held on the 29th January. The venue depends on who
wins in the semi finals.

The Pro20 series gets underway on Wednesday 3rd February when Dolphins
take on Titans in Durban. Warriors first game in the Pro20 will be at
Buffalo Park on Friday 5th February against the Eagles.
