Warriors vs Lions

www.MyPE.co.za:
Popped down to the cricket match between the Chevrolet
Warriors
and Highveld Lions to experience a bit of the longer
form of
cricket, the 4 day game, heralded by the resumption of the Supersport Series.
Quite surreal it is, sitting in the media room all alone and looking
out at a completely empty St. Georges Park. One of the ‘perks’ of my
‘job’ is being able to work from virtually any place in Port Elizabeth
that has internet or 3G access.

The Warriors currently have opening batsmen Smuts (22) and Jacobs (0)
at the
crease who have faced 14 overs from Lion’s Bowlers De Wet, Frylinck and
Alexander
and are on 38 for the loss of one. Carig Thyssen walked on 13
runs after being caught by Alexander off of the bowling of Frylinck in
the 13th over.

We are NOT doing a Live
Blog
of this match but you can follow the ball
by ball action on Cricinfo.

At present the Warriors are lying third on the table behind the Titans
and Eagles. Warriors have played 5 matches in this competition having
won 1 against the Eagles on the 12th of October at St Georges Park,
lost 2 and drawn 2.

A big blow to the Warriors has been the suspension of Robin Peterson,
who was been suspended from playing two SuperSport Series matches after
he admitted his guilt in breaching clause 1.4, which states that
participants shall not
use crude or abusive language nor make
offensive gestures to any other participant, official or spectator.

Warriors coach Russell Domingo has also been suspended from
accompanying the side for two games. Domingo was also found in breach
of clause 1.2, which deals with showing dissent to the umpire.

With the Titans heading the log on 54.62 points and the Warriors on
42.24 points and the pressure from a home crowd hungry for
silverware, a win in this match for the Warriors will be vital.

Upcoming Warriors
fixtures in the Supersport Series:

  • 5th to 8th March vs Eagles
    in Bloemfontein
  • 12th to 15th March vs
    Titans in Centurion
  • 26th to 29th March vs
    Dolphins in Port Elizabeth
  • 2nd to 5th April vs Cape
    Cobras in East London

Entry to St. Georges Park is free.
