Where Will You be Cleaning up on Saturday?

www.MyPE.co.za: On
Saturday 18 September, Ocean
volunteers will team up with
the Addo Honorary Rangers and assist SANParks by helping to clean up
the Beach area between Woody Cape and the Sundays River, in Nelson
Mandela Bay.

The clean-up area is approximately 50 kilometres of beach, and lies
between Bird Island and St Croix Island. The area is home to many sea
birds such as penguins, gannets and cormorants. Pollution comes mainly
from the Coega Harbour area and comprises various forms of debris,
particularly plastic bags. Due to the prevailing surface currents this
debris is washed up the beach. The clean-up area is partly managed by
SANParks and accessibility is difficult and limited.

October was declared as Marine Month in 2009. The team will picking up
plastic, glass, tyres and similar flotsam and jetson off this pristine
stretch of beach.

To volunteer to help Ocean Messengers on this unique stretch of beach
call Rainer on 072 142 0420.

A bit closer in, along Pollock Beach, Bayworld
together with Sappi
(Adamis Mill) will be hosting their own clean up effort and encourage
the public to join Bayworld from 09:00am. Dirt bags will be provided.

Sappi will be sponsoring a group of children from SOS Children’s
Village, a group of PROTEC students, and a mathematics, Science and
Technology intervention programme from grade 10 to 12 learners.

Join in this important conservation exercise during Tourism month.
While you are in the area – pay a visit to Bayworld – be a tourist in
your own City.

Bayworld opens at 09:00 and closes at 16:30. Seal and penguin
presentations are at 11:00 and 15:00 daily and be amazed at the
exciting animatronics Dinosaur display.

For queries please contact Alicia on 041 584 0650 at Bayworld.

The Summerstrand Ward 1 and 2 branches will also be getting involved
and doing their bit to help conserve our marine environment and extend
an invitation to each of you to do the same.
